Classification of Tenses Class 10

Tenses are divided into three main types:

Each of these is further divided into four subcategories:

  • Simple

🟢 Present Tense

The Present Tense refers to actions happening right now, regularly, or as a general truth.

1. Simple Present Tense

Singular Plural
Subject + V1 + s/es + Object Subject + V1 + Object

Examples:

  • The girl sings a song. (Singular subject: girlsings)

  • The girls sing a song. (Plural subject: girlssing)

2. Present Continuous Tense

Rule:
Subject + is/am/are + V1 + ing + Object

Example:

  • She is eating food.
    (Subject: She, helping verb: is, verb: eat + ing = eating)

3. Present Perfect Tense

Singular Plural
Subject + has + V3 + Object Subject + have + V3 + Object

Examples:

  • He has cleaned the utensils.
  • They have cleaned the utensils.

4. Present Perfect Continuous Tense

Singular Plural
Subject + has been + V1 + ing + Object Subject + have been + V1 + ing + Object

Examples:

  • She has been practising since morning.
  • They have been practising since morning.
